The Legend of the Kermode: Found only in British Columbia's northern forests, the rare "Spirit Bear" or "Kermode Bear" is widely recognized for its unique white colouring. A First Nation legend states that the Raven, their creator, made these bears white as a reminder of the time when the world was pure and clean and covered with snowdrifts and ice blue glaciers. Raven promised that these bears would live in peace and harmony forever. |

| Designed by Terrace artist Joe Mandur Jr., 200 of these beautiful prints have been released as part of the Spirit Bear in the City Project. The print on a full sheet measures 15 inches by 22 inches and is available at GoBid.ca |

The Legend of the Spirit Bear: "Many moons ago, Bear performed a good deed for Raven. In return of this kindness, Raven granted Bear the supernatural power of turning from black into white. Raven said that this honour was to remind all of Creation of Bear’s good deed. Here Bear is shown with copper and blue within its body, the copper represents wealth and the blue is a spiritual colour. So, Bear is spiritual and possesses the inner wealth that comes from giving to others. For it is only when you give that you become wealthy. Now we need to change like Bear and be helpful to others. In this
case we will be helpful to children and their families through our
support of the BC Lion’s Society for Children with Disabilities." |
