'A Tribute to John Lennon "Was It Just a Dream"'

Provenance: This Spirit Bear is white to convey its spiritual nature and the fact that John Lennon chose to wear white for his peace movement. Childlike flowers and stars are painted in very strong primary colors, ironically, not intentionally a little reminiscent of the colorful, whimsical style John Lennon had his Rolls-Royce custom painted in the 1960's. On his face are his trademark granny glasses.

'Dancing with the Bears'

Provenance: The man on the Bear's front represents "Hamasta", or wild man dance, in which a man wears a costume similar to the Spirit Bear. The man's hands are tucked in the Bear's wrist bands to show they are dancing together as one, as in Richard Hunt's culture, the bear is a reincarnation of a deceased elder or family member.

Provenance: Looking up into a starry night sky, on a peaceful summers' eve, is the ultimate spiritual experience that the artist wanted to portray in her Spirit Bear. The night sky was painted as an ultra marine blue with myriad of stars, galaxies and milky ways with gold and colored dots and specs and then sprinkled gold dust and sparkles into a clear acrylic varnish, giving an illusion of our infinite universe. On the front is a mosaic Spirit Star and a Spirit Sun on the back with gold glass, beads, pebbles, etc. and thus the cosmic "Golden Spirit" was born.

'Sir Bartholomew'

Provenance: VOCYL (Victoria Opportunities for Community Youth Leadership) is a group of young promising leaders (aged 15-21). Living with and without developmental disabilities, the 12 youth all participated in "Bartholomew"(Bart's) creation. One of the youth involved in the project is also the daughter of local artist Kristi Bridgeman. The bear is named after the hotels gathering spot of the same name. "Bartholomew" ~ dressed in his tweed duds, decorative tie, waist coat and watch bob ~ came out of hibernation in May of this year to adorn the sidewalk in front of the hotel.

The full color portion of the design shows the bears in their natural habitat.

Painted to represent a pure Kermode, he looks like he has real fur, real claws and all the typical markings of a real Kermode Bear. BC Spirit Bear has distinct chevrons of golden brown on his chest and on his back, while a major part of his fur is a light blonde. This bear represents Jack Nicklaus wearing his Masters jacket and signature plaid pants. Jack Nicklaus visited Bear Mountain in August and personally signed his name on the green Masters jacket worn by the bear. This sculpture also comes with a framed photograph of Jack Nicklaus signing the bear. This is one of two Jack Nicklaus bears created by Judson Beaumont.

Provenance: What a privilege it was to have so much fun while helping to raise funds for children with disabilities. When I received the call to paint a Spirit Bear for the A&W, Nanaimo, I was very pleased. I grew up watching Happy Days on TV and drinking Root Beer at the A&W; the Fonz seemed like a natural icon for me to portray. His prominent placement on the grassy bank of the highway allows him to give the famous "thumbs up" to all who pass.
